SSI's Dive Control Specialist certification is the first step toward a career in diving. Considered by many to be the most fun role on an instructional dive team, the SSI DiveCon can do more than any other entry-level dive leader. Why? Because unlike other training agencies, SSI combines dive master and assistant instructor training into challenging and fun-filled course.

As a DiveCon candidate you will study advanced dive physics, physiology, and decompression theory. You'll practice advanced rescue techniques, fine-tune your dive skills, and learn the basics of teaching and aiding students. When you've completed the training, you'll be certified to assist with classes and even teach some SSI courses on your own.

The length of the class varies depending on the number of students, but generally lasts approximately 12 weeks, with 1-2 sessions per week.

As a Dive Control Specialist you can:

Work on dive boats at resorts and retail stores, and take people diving
Lead dive trips and tours
Assist SSI Instructors in the pool and open water
Teach skills in the pool under the direct supervision of an SSI Instructor
Teach the SSI Scuba Skills Update program
Teach the SSI Snorkeling program
Teach selected SSI Specialty courses
Teach selected First Aid and CPR programs
Teach Scuba Rangers (after completing the Scuba Rangers Instructor training)
